Math can be fun and interesting. Really, it can be. Once a student masters the concepts, math goes from being an academic burden to one that is positive and can create momentum. It also opens a student's eyes to the exceptional career choices that exist. However, reaching this point often requires some help, at the right time. I received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, where I served as a course curriculum adviser. I feel fortunate that I get to use math every day in my job at St. Louis Children's Hospital, where I currently work as the Operations Engineer. Both my love for math and my very strong interpersonal communication skills make me the person sought out, by students and parents of students, when some assistance is required to help them get over a hump or solve a piece of the math puzzle. It is also why I want to tutor others. I want to leverage my set of math skills and ability to create a learning environment of positive reinforcement. I believe that any student can become a good math student. I am especially excited when I can help a shy and reluctant student realize how intuitive and interesting math is.
