Experience
I can understand the struggles students can have in understanding subjects. I grew up in the United States, but English is not my first language. This presented a challenge in keeping my native Spanish skills current. As a result, I set a personal challenge to enroll in Spanish classes when I attended Saint Louis University. My goal was to increase the understanding of my first language. I not only finished the Spanish grammar and literature classes, but I went on to read the challenging works of Jorge Luis Borges, Miguel Cervantes, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez. When I completed these courses and readings, I understood the feeling of success and reward. This has helped me be mindful of students who struggle. It also further pushed me to want to help similar students. I enjoy helping students see the excitement in overcoming the difficulties in hard subjects. I enjoy helping students who come from various backgrounds and using various ways to match the student's learning style with my teaching strategies. I'm available for tutoring in all levels of Spanish as well as languages, social studies, and American history. I can also help students with ACT test prep. In my free time, I enjoy visiting coffee shops, writing, reading, listening to music, and learning about international affairs.
