Experience
I have several years of tutoring experience. As a college student, I helped struggling English majors pass a dreaded grammar class; I watched C and D students become A and B students with hard work and the help of a dedicated, enthusiastic tutor (me). As a graduate student, I tutored students of all majors and levels in our university Writing Center and helped them grow in their confidence and effectiveness as writers. And for the past ten years, I have worked as a private tutor for a young person with a learning disability, helping him to capitalize on his strengths and to find the tools to thrive as a student and a future worker. As a university English instructor, I have taught composition, literature, and women's studies courses and have served as a writing center coordinator. I am an enthusiastic teacher who delights in helping young people find the joy and value in thinking deeply about literature. (Many of my literature-hating students came away from my classes with a new love for poetry and Shakespeare, for instance.) As for writing, anyone can become a better, more effective writer with practice and guidance. Often, people who claim to hate writing suffer from psychological blocks that, with various tools and tricks, can be overcome. Master's in English, four years of University level teaching experience.
