Experience

I have tutored and currently tutor both secondary and elementary students in writing, reading, and math. For the past two years I have worked full-time as a teacher's aide and taught a one-hour writing and reading elective course to mixed middle school students. I have ample experience working with elementary and middle school students with IEP and 504 plans. I have been nominated by my peers for Support Staff of the Year and the Gretta Forrester Character Award and started the first ever student newspaper at the school where I work. I have published both critical writing and creative non-fiction and have worked and volunteered as a writer and editor for several newspapers and literary magazines and small presses. I have several 100% papers from college complete with professor comments available upon request as well as my published writing. I enjoy tutoring because it gives me an opportunity to sharpen my skills as an educator, connect with a person one-on-one, and essentially, how I feel, "solve their case." I am currently earning my Missouri Teaching License in Secondary English Language Arts and anticipate full licensure by fall 2015.

My hobbies include reading and writing fiction, walking my dogs (a pitbull and boxer), attending concerts with my wife, creating a non-profit creative writing workshop for teens, and collecting vinyl records. I also enjoy watching independent films and documentaries.
