Education

University of Missouri St. Louis - BA, Psychology. 3.5 GPA in my major. Certificate in Trauma Studies Focus on Child Development Minor in classical studies Graduated with my Associates Degree from St. Charles community college with Phi Theta Kappa honors.

Experience

I have tutored many fellow classmates throughout my college career. I struggled a great deal in my formative years with school. I found that I had undiagnosed ADHD which most likely began in my childhood. I have an intimate understanding of the difficulties a child faces as part of their schooling. With that in mind I am extremely patient and persistent in working with a student to overcome their own obstacles to learning. I plan on continuing in graduate school pursuing a masters degree in psychological counseling. I spent a short time of my final year in Italy in a study abroad program as part of a classical studies minor. I continue to work with professors at UMSL assisting in their research in the fields of child development and separately a research project on the effects of racism and other forms of prejudice in our society.

Hobbies

I have a passion for learning. It has become my lifelong pursuit. I expect to be a school counselor after completing graduate school. My main interests are reading, writing and traveling. I enjoy mostly textbooks in the field of psychology, sociology and philosophy, but also the Latin and Greek Classics. I also appreciate biographies of famous and influential people from history. After all, how better to learn how to lead an excellent and fulfilling life than by studying those people that exemplify those very ideas. I returned to college as a non-traditional student at the age of 40 and just completed my B.A. this past May. I went straight into college when I was 18 years old and promptly failed out of three consecutive colleges within two years time. I entered the business world and did a variety of jobs. In a great deal of those jobs I experienced many successes and learned many things but I finally accepted the fact that significant opportunities were closed to me because I did not have a college degree. I failed out of the college the first time because I was cocky and thought a degree was unnecessary to get the things I wanted in life. I hated to go to school. I could not sit still in class. I was the class clown. I have now developed a profound appreciation and respect for school and learning. I have developed relationships with many professors and other high caliber students and I continue those friendships even now. I would be humbled to be able to assist other students in discovering their own strengths and successes through my virtually infinite patience and persistence.
