Patricia (Pat) M.

Private tutor in St. Louis, MO

Education

Lindenwood University - B.A., Corporate Communication (2001), Lindenwood University - M.A., Communications -Training & Development (2003) As a communications graduate student, a majority of my grades were based on my writing and oral presentation skills.

Experience

I am a reading/writing tutor at Harris-Stowe State University, which includes, but not limited to providing special assistance to ADA students, working with international students, assisting students from under-served communities, assisting in writing research/essay papers, editing research/essay papers, and assisting with scholarship applications. Traveling to Haiti (2003), I taught English to 30+ Haitian children; traveling to Holland (2011), I conducted communications training at a conference; and was a guest speaker in Israel (2012). I conducted communications training at a leadership summit in New York (2006), and currently teach a corporate communications course at Harris-Stowe State University. To hone in on my editing skills, I took an editing course at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. This course not only improved my editing skills, but it enhanced my writing skills too. There are more than 40 trophies/plaques that I won when I competed in various speech contests as a Toastmasters International member. The reason for my success as a speaker, I use a specific strategy to make sure my speeches have all of the components to make them a winner. If you or your child need assistance giving presentations that will improve your or their grade, I am available to help with that too. My passion for tutoring is because I’m very aware of how critical good writing, reading, and oral communication skills are. It could determine between getting a job and losing it to someone who has these skills. Since providing tutoring can help students prepare for competition when it comes to the job market, I enjoy helping them improve. (This is one of the reasons I majored in training and development; to help people improve to advance in his or her career.) I want to help students become the one selected for the job because they went the extra mile to improve their writing, reading, or oral communication skills.

Hobbies

I enjoy reading books that enlighten my knowledge on a subject, like finances, interpersonal communication, traveling, etc. Traveling internationally is one of my passions. I’ve gone to ten countries so far; and some more than once. I enjoy old movies, comedy, karate, romance, and musicals movies too. I even took a TV production course, which gave me a whole new perspective on watching movies because I know the hard work that goes into making them. Exercising and I are becoming friends again. I finally got a personal training to help me with dieting and exercise and have had tremendous success. My goal is to make it a lifestyle and not a goal of losing “X” number of pounds.
