Mindy C.

Private tutor in St. Louis, MO

Education

BA, Communication and Journalism, St. Louis University, 1991 MA, Communication and Education, St. Louis University, 2008 Currently studying with WGU for my MS in Education, expected graduation 12/2016

Experience

I have worked as a freelance tutor (mostly ESL) in the summer for years, and have tutored elementary and adult students in a variety of subjects during the school year. I work full-time in Intervention in a public school district in St. Louis, MO, working with students who struggle academically but do not qualify for special education services. I've held this job for four years, and have learned much about school systems and what they require. I am also a mother to two daughters, one of whom graduated from a private high school and is in college, and one who currently attends a public arts high school. They are both excelling, although in very different areas, and I homeschooled both girls in elementary school due to regular international travel.

Hobbies

My passion is first and foremost my children. My own are nearly grown, and one has flown the nest, attending college several states away . The younger will graduate high school in 2016. One is a science nerd/girly sorority girl/social butterfly/rugby player - yes, quite the combination! My youngest is a musician and artist, introverted and a deep thinker. It's been a fascinating ride raising two such very different personalities. I am divorced and raising them both; they spend time with their father and he and I parent them as a team. I am passionate about education and making sure that all children have access to it. I work with an underserved population in an elementary school, and some days want to bring them all home with me. Not every day, mind you - but sometimes! I am also passionate about race relations in this country and facing and addressing the unfair systems that abound throughout. That is probably the primary driving force behind my returning to school, once again, at the age of 55. Outside all that, I make jewelry, enjoy my friends and family and love walking, traveling and good books. I'd love to help you or your child reach your full academic potential!
