Experience

As a high school guidance counselor, I have many years of experience in academic counseling/tutoring. I love working with students and assisting them in setting and achieving their goals. I have experience in teaching study skills such as time management, test anxiety, exam preparation, note taking and memory strategies. In addition, I have worked with several students to help them get organized, which is key to success. I have also worked with students that simply need guidance when it comes time to do homework. Whether it is with prioritizing homework, understanding a syllabus, creating a homework plan or simply just needing someone there to help direct them/guide them, I am happy to help. Sometimes it takes someone other than mom or dad :) My other responsibilities as a counselor included helping a diverse group of students, grades 9-12, with their college search. This included the application process, scholarship searches, financial aid and college essay writing. In addition to college counseling, I also assisted students with social and emotional issues and academic struggles. My responsibilities included personal counseling, small group counseling, crisis intervention, peer mentoring programs and teaching guidance classes. I oversaw and helped students with their academic four-year course plan and the registration process. I assisted students with academic struggles by conferencing and helping them with organization, time management and other study skill areas. I communicated with parents as necessary. I currently work part-time as a Study Skills Coordinator and would like to spend my off time as a tutor.
