I have a degree in English Literature from Harvard College. From a very young age, I have gotten gratification out of teaching others. I volunteered as a peer tutor in high school, worked as a tutor in college, and taught ESL to all ages in Japan. My tutoring generally focuses on English, writing, and test preparation. However, I can tutor other Humanities subjects as well.Mastering a subject inevitably requires lots of hard work. However, I strongly believe that the effort becomes enjoyable and worthwhile when we can engage with the subject and find its intrinsic value. My priority is to individualize my approach for each student, to help the student identify themselves with the material. It is also important to allow the student freedom to own the subject, instead of forcing my perspective. I find teaching English very fulfilling because I see how many roadblocks students encounter when trying to express themselves in writing or analyze a text. It is so rewarding when the same students change their thinking and enjoy putting their ideas on paper to share with the world!In my free time, I like to read, sing, go to plays, and study Persian and Japanese.
