I tutor in topics like geography, phonics, reading, and social studies, but my love is in math, especially algebra and pre-algebra. I believe in building the self-esteem of the students around academic pursuits, which, in turn, improves their academic abilities. I make this my goal. It brings me joy to see a child go from being fearful and nervous to being competent and self-assured. Play hard, work hard is my style of tutoring. We will pinpoint the areas in the subject matter that need improvement and work on those areas. We will also have fun getting to know one another by playing games. I am also certified as a yoga teacher. I believe that practicing yoga through physical discipline helps prepare the mind for any mental undertaking, like preparing for and taking tests. The world we live in is so busy, and yoga gives me the time to listen to my body and my mind's needs by going inward. I am a summa cum laude graduate with a bachelor's degree in Art History from the University of Minnesota. While teaching full-time as a special education teacher at a couple of different schools, I obtained my master's of Education degree from National-Louis University. I enjoy helping as a volunteer at a children's arts non-profit, reading about world and political issues, camping, and biking.
