Experience

I graduated from the University of Central Missouri with a bachelor's degree in English education. I am still enrolled and attending there to obtain a master's degree in library and information science. I have certifications to teach English and history and can tutor middle school, high school, and college students in both those subjects. I not only help students who are struggling with the subject, but I can also help them prepare for college entrance exams. Additionally, I can help students who are writing their essays for college applications and scholarships. A portion of my experience includes working with students who have learning disabilities, including autism. I teach students how to research a subject and how to use new technologies to do so. I currently work as a school librarian in St. Louis. This has led to my love of helping students find books they will enjoy reading. I have found that when a student enjoys reading, they not only become more adept at writing, but also learn other subject matters while doing so. My teaching methods include a lot of interaction. I find ways to hold students' interests in a subject by finding things they enjoy doing and then applying them to the subject at hand. Learning should challenge students, but not to the point of causing them to feel they cannot do the work.When not learning or teaching, I like to read, write, and play an online roleplaying game. I also like to hike, swim, and spend time in outdoor activities with my family.
