I earned my undergraduate degree in geography from Western Kentucky University. I began tutoring writing in high school and then as a college student I tutored others in geography. I currently tutor a variety of subjects, including algebra 1 & 2, geometry, elementary math, middle school math, chemistry, English grammar and syntax, geography, pre-algebra, social studies, English, science, and essay editing. I also enjoy working with students who are preparing to take standardized exams such as the ACT or GED. When working with students I know that many tutors will teach specific strategies for taking tests or completing assignments. I never found this sort of thing to be especially useful in my own academic career and I have found that students are far too different from one another for any single set of strategies to be consistently effective. I take the time to get to know each of my students and then base my instructional style and methodology around what will work best for them based on their learning style, academic strengths, and academic weaknesses. This ensures that each student gets what they need to achieve their academic goals and it also means that no two sessions are ever quite the same.
