ExperienceI tutor a number of different subjects, but my specialties are helping students prepare for the writing and verbal sections of the GRE, SAT, and ACT. These admissions exams are a very important part of a student's life, I love helping my students build test taking skills and confidence in their abilities to go after their goal scores and admission to the schools of their dreams. As a tutor, I understand that every student learns in their own way, and I have the ability to try different approaches and find the strategy that works best for each student.
I went to the University of California - San Diego for my bachelor's degree in human development. I then went on to the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology to earn my masters degree in theology, graduating summa cum laude. I'm currently attending Washington University for an additional masters degree in social work.
I've had the opportunity of working as a tutor for elementary school students who are at risk and underperforming. I also tutored as a graduate student, assisting students in writing, reading, and verbal skills for the ACT and SAT. Some of the students I work with learning disabilities such as ADHD and ADD. Working with the students, I developed the ability to lead sessions that kept students active and engaged in the learning process.
I also served as the director of admissions for a graduate school, and I have insight into how students can write persuasive admissions essays and personal statements.
HobbiesReading good novels (especially fantasy), taking care of my freshwater aquarium and Amano shrimp, quilting, swimming, walking/exploring St. Louis, and spending quality time with family and friends.
